学习者社区之教师篇 | Teacher is the key in the school's Five Elements

作为一名PYP教师,要给学生“一杯水”,首先自己要有“一桶水”、“长流水”,践行终身学习者的发展目标。苏城外国语学校作为一所IB候选国际学校,汇集了一批志同道合的优秀教师。为了帮助教师提升基本技能、激发能动性、促进自我成长,近日,苏城外小学部举行了一场别开生面的青年教师基本功比赛。

As a PYP teacher, to give students ‘a glass of water’, first of all, they should have ‘a bucket of water’themselves, which means that they need to be lifelong learners for future development. As an IB world school, Soochow Foreign Language School brings together a group of like-minded outstanding teachers. In order to help teachers improve their basic skills, promote agency and promote their self-development, a basic skill competition among young teachers was held recently by the teaching and research teams of primary school.




语文组结合了IB对教师的基本要求,将比赛设为三个项目:粉笔字、即兴演讲与探究单设计

According to the basic requirements of IB, Chinese teaching and research team divided the competition into three parts: chalk writing, improvised speech and designing inquiring worksheets.



参赛老师们集中展示的粉笔字书写作品。字形优美舒展、工整有致,均是老师们长时间坚持练习的成果,充分展现了教师“孜孜不倦育桃李”的深厚功底。

The chalk writing works exhibited by the participating teachers are the results of the teachers' long-term practice, which fully demonstrate teachers' ability in cultivating students.



为锻炼语文教师的思辨能力,语文组将独创的看图即兴演讲,作为比赛项目之一。“一千个人眼中有一千个哈姆雷特”,在小小的一方舞台中,每位选手都对自己抽到的图片进行解说,展现精彩自我。

In order to train the critical thinking of Chinese teachers, the Chinese group uniquely created the improvisation speech as one of the events. ‘There are a thousand Hamlets in the eyes of a thousand people’. On the stage, each contestant gave a unique explanation to the pictures they picked, demonstrating their brilliant minds.



为引导学生积极探究,探究单的合理设计便成了IB教师的必备技能之一。老师们设计的探究单侧重于语文学科知识的同时,体现超学科理念,并且契合了不同年龄段学生的学习特点。

IB requires students to explore spontaneously. In order to guide students to explore continuously, designing reasonable and workable inquiry sheets has become one of the essential skills of IB teachers. The inquiring worksheets designed by the teachers focused on the basics of Chinese as well as transdisciplinary knowledge. In the meantime, they conformed to the learning characteristics of students at different ages.




小学数学组教师基本功竞赛分为三部分:硬笔书法、无生试讲以及解题能力。

The basic skills competition of primary school mathematics team was comprised of three parts: hard pen calligraphy, demo class without students and problem-solving ability test.



硬笔书法练字不仅仅是在书写,更在于修心的过程。

Hard pen calligraphy is not all about writing. It can also be considered as an integral process of cultivating writers’ minds.

在第二场无生试讲竞赛中,各位老师充分把握短短的十分钟时间,明确教学目标,熟练掌握教学内容,在教学过程中有意识进行提问、追问。


是这样吗?”

“为什么?”

“还有不同的意见吗?”


逐层深入,启发学生不断思考,将学习者从凝固的观念中解放出来,觉悟到“无知之知”,学生的反思与批判意识和能力在这一过程得到激发。在质疑、提问、追问、讨论、表达中,学生的思辨水平得以提升。

In the second part of the competition, no student trial contest, each teacher made full use of the given ten minutes, defined the teaching objectives, made the teaching contents clear, and consciously asked questions during the teaching process, ‘ is this right?’ ‘Why?’ ‘Any different opinions?’ With the further discussion, the brainstorms enlighten students to think constantly and liberate learners from their fixed ideas. In this process, students' reflective and critical consciousness and ability are stimulated. Students' thinking level can be improved during continually questioning, discussion and expression.



提高解题能力是教师提高课堂质量的有力抓手。比赛中,老师们认真审题、仔细解答,表现出极高的业务水平。

Improving teachers’ ability of solving problems is a powerful way for teachers to improve the quality of classes. During the competition, the teachers carefully examined the questions and answered them carefully, showing a high level of professional skills.




英语组本次基本功大赛我们分为三大板块:英文书写,无声试讲和现场情境问答。

Three parts made up the basic skills competition of English teaching and research team: English writing, demo class without students and on-site Q&A.


板书是体现教师基本功的一个重要组成部分,英语组的老师们采取现场抽签英文诗歌,限时比赛的形式,统一书写。意大利圆体,斜体,罗马体...老师们玩转花体,行云流水般完成了一幅幅优美的板书作品。

Blackboard writing is an important part of teachers' basic skills. English teachers in the English group drew English poems on the spot and write them in a unified way while time is limited. Italian round, italics, Romanesque... The teachers wrote with distinctive flourishes and completed beautiful and delightful blackboard works.



三尺讲台,五米黑板,这就是每一位教师最热衷和最值得骄傲的工作台。苏城外的英语教师们发挥自己语言专长,流利的口语,生动的课堂展示,在试讲课中给小朋友们打造真实多样的语言学习环境,激发学生的语言学习兴趣,加深多元文化理解,发展国际情怀。

Platform as well as blackboard is teachers’ favorite place where their sense of honor comes from. English teachers from Soochow Foreign Language School gave full play to their language expertise, fluent oral English and vivid classroom display, creating anauthentic and diversified language learning environment for children in the trial lecture and stimulating students' interest in language learning. Consequently, intercultural understanding and international mindedness are promoted.



实际教学的多样性,要求老师要用全球视野思考问题。情境问答考验了老师们在遇到课堂中很多突发情况,充分发挥教师的能动性,帮助孩子成为终身学习者,积极探究的IB学习者。

The diversity of practical teaching requires teachers to think in a global perspective. Q & A test gave many unexpected situations that teachers may encounter in the classroom and therefore can support teachers' agency and help students become lifelong learners and active IB inquirers.





“问渠哪得清如许?为有源头活水来。”作为一名教育工作者,只有通过学习和交流不断更新自己,才能够使自己的思想和见解始终保持常用常新。

As an educator, only by learning and communicating with peers constantly, can our thoughts and opinions be kept up with the times. 



苏城外国语学校为打造一个全纳全人的学习者社区,积极为教师搭建平台,为每一位教师的职业发展提供支持。教师们在基本功比赛中,不但展示了自身的风采,还通过积极参与、专业引领、相互学习、取长补短,不断提升教学实践和反思,从而为学生提供更丰富多彩的学习体验。

In order to create an inclusive and holistic learning community, Soochow Foreign Language School actively builds a platform for teachers and provides support for each teacher's professional development. In the basic skills competition, teachers not only showed their own style, but also improved teaching ability and reflected through active participation, professional guidance, mutual learning and learning from each other, so as to provide students with more colorful learning experience.
