在苏城外的校园里,
时不时能听到班级里传出欢笑声、歌声,
走进班级里,看到孩子们进行
小组讨论、唱歌学英语,
共同完成一项又一项学习任务。
In the campus of Soochow Foreign Language School, you can hear laughter and singing in the classrooms every now and then. Walking into the the classroom, you can see children discussing in groups and collaborating on a task.

Let’s take a look of children’s inquiry.

家是温暖的港湾
是心灵的归宿
为了让萌娃们对于家有深度的认识和感受,提升他们的成长幸福感。苏城外国语学校一年级的小小探究者们开启了为期6周的“家”的探究之旅。
Home is the warm harbor for the soul. Knowing and feeling about home in depth helps children to grow up with a sense of well-being. For this reason, the Year 1 Little Inquirers of Soochow Foreign Language School have embarked on a six-week inquiry of 'home'.


本轮探究旨在培养学生成为
一个勤于思考、知识渊博和胸襟开阔的孩子
从学生较为熟悉的家庭入手展开探究,引导学生理解“家庭”的概念,让学生了解家庭影响个人成长,明确家庭成员分工、职责,激发学生对家庭成员的感恩之情,由爱家延伸到爱班级、爱国家培养学生的家庭观念和集体观念。
The aim of this inquiry is to develop students to be thinkers, knowledgeable and open-minded. Students will be guided to understand the concept of "family", and be aware the responsibilities of family members and how they influence our development, so that they will be inspired to be grateful to family members, and extend this love to their class, the school, the city and the country.


课堂上,老师启发学生思考:
你认为什么是“家”?
家庭是如何影响我们的成长的呢?

带着这些问题,学生从“家”的汉字书写入手,通过观看《汉字“家”的演变》,理解中文的博大精深。
Driven by the key concepts, the teacher inspired students to think: What is home? How does family influence our development? With these questions in mind, students started from the writing of the Chinese character 'family'. They studied how this character evolved in the history.

The bilingual family tree helps groups to present their family members in a more structured way.

在探究过程中,学生结合家庭成员的特征进行交流,完成了“家庭花”的制作。
During their inquiries, students were able to communicate the characteristics of their family members and created a 'family flower'.

The picture book 'All Kinds of Families' broadens students' horizons and helps them to be open-minded about every kind of family.

家庭成员与自己的关系不可分割
家庭成员的付出为自己的成长
构筑了温暖的港湾
学生的家庭观念和集体观念深入学生的心灵,对家庭成员的感恩之情油然而生。
During the inquiry, students gradually realize the influence of 'family' on their own growth, the inseparable relationship between family members and themselves, and the contribution of family members in building a warm harbour for the development of a child. In the end, family and collective values are deeply rooted in the students' hearts and minds, and their gratitude to family members also grows in their mind.

制作贺卡感谢家人的陪伴与付出
这些行动加强了学生在家庭中的身份认同,更加深了学生和家庭成员的感情。
At the end of the unit, students took actions by various ways, such as making videos to share their family, making cards to show their love to family members. These actions reinforce their identity within the family and deepen their relationships with family members.


为期6周的单元探究,激发了学生的好奇心,并加深了他们对家庭和文化的理解,让学生有机会通过相关的和真实的情境,积极表达自己的思想,理解周围的世界,发展个人身份认同和对多元文化的理解,成为具有中国灵魂、国际情怀的终身学习者。
The 6-week unit of inquiry stimulates students' curiosity and deepens their understanding of family and culture, giving them the opportunity to read and write in relevant and authentic contexts. Students are able to express their thoughts and understand the world around them, develop their personal identity and intercultural awareness to become a life long leaner with Chinese identity and international mindedness.

孩子们用稚嫩的手笔记录下对此次探究的自我反思,家长们也纷纷写下他们的感想。
The children used immature handwriting to record their self-reflection on this inquiry, and the parents also wrote down their thoughts.



所谓“家”,不是房子,是爱的总和。
无论是我们的小家,还是苏城外这个大家庭,
关于“家”的故事一直在延续……
家是温暖,让我们一起为孩子的一生奠基,
续写属于SCFLS家的故事。
Home is a not a house but a place with love.In our own home and in the big home of SCFLS.Love is abundant everywhere.Let’s lay the foundation for the children and create the home memories in SCFLS.
