nd why has STEAM education been so popular in recent years?
STEAM 是科学(Science),技术(Technology),工程(Engineering),艺术(Arts),数学 (Mathematics)英文首字母的缩略语,最早是由美国国家科学基金会提出,目前已在多国具有较为成熟的发展体制。
STEAM is the abbreviation of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It was put forward by the U.S. National Science Funding Committee, and has had a very mature developing system.
随着 STEAM 教育在国内的快速普及,STEAM 也有了很多不同的扩展,其中STEAM课程受到更为广泛的关注。
With the fast development of STEAM in China, it has also extended a lot in different aspects, of which STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) remains attracting the most attention.

As an IB candidate school, STEAM education in Soochow Foreign Language School promotes to integrate knowledge of each area through comprehensive subjects, so as to enhance the coordination among subjects. Let’s get into the classroom of SCFLS and take a look at our STEAM courses.

3D打印创客类
3D printing
学生在课堂中根据主题画出草图,利用建模软件进行设计,在此过程中教师指导学生根据实物计算物体尺寸比例,培养学生的空间感,将三维立体知识融入到活动制作中。
Students draw up sketches based on the theme. They use modeling software to design their work while teachers direct them to calculate the size and proportion of the objects. It develops students’ sense of space and allows them to apply 3D knowledge into daily life.

设计好的3D模型与3D打印技术相结合,利用其快速成型的特点,将3D模型转换为立体物品。
Then they use the technology of 3D modeling and 3D printing to make the object prototype in a short time, transferring the 3D models into products.

创意编程类
Creative programming
通过线上编程与线下实物作品创作相结合,通过导电实物形成程序触发,可以制作出有趣有用的作品,例如简易电子琴、电竞计数器、呼吸灯、毛毛虫等。
Interesting and useful works can be produced through the combination of online programming and offline creation of works, which can be triggered by the formation of conductive real objects. For example, Electronic organ, electronic gaming counter, breathing lamp, caterpillar and so on.

教师在课堂中通过任务驱动,模仿学习,跨学科教学实践将物理、计算机知识更好的融入课堂,提高学生的逻辑思维和动手制作能力,让孩子们真正感受到编程的魅力,学以致用,开发创造力!
Through task-driven, imitative learning and interdisciplinary teaching practice, teachers can better integrate Physics and Computer Science into the classroom, improve students' logical thinking and hands-on production ability, so that children can truly feel the charm of programming, put what they have learned into practice and develop their creativity.

机器人课程
Robotics course
教师通过结构设计、程序编写、问题记录、工程笔记等环节来激发学生运用生活经验及所学知识,锻炼学生创造力和解决问题的能力。
Teachers set up structural design, program writing, problem recording, engineering notes and other links to stimulate students to use life experience and knowledge they have already learnt to practise their creativity and problem-solving ability.

模型制作类
Pottery course
脑手并用,化身小小鲁班。学校为孩子们打造了高端特色的木工坊,在这里,通过木工课的学习,让孩子们将纸上的设计变成现实。在实践中感知耐心的重要,在制作中体会专注的魅力。
Students use their hands and brain to design models. They look like Lu Ban who was the originator of architecture. Our school provides students with a well-facilitated wood workshop and we hope students can turn the design into a visual reality.

空模课程旨在激发孩子的兴趣,以及培养学生动手能力,让学生在实践中掌握飞行知识。
At the same time, the pottery course helps students know what the pottery is and students can learn the process of making works.

陶艺制作课程,教师不仅让学生了解什么是陶艺,并了解陶艺的制作方法和过程,亲手创造陶艺作品,同时也是通过学习制作模型培养孩子的动手能力,艺术创造力,引导学生将设计理念和对生活的热爱融入自己的作品中,尝试新的途径表达自己。
Making pottery works by themselves is the way to cultivate their practical and creative abilities. We wish to guide them to fuse their ideas and passion for life with the works and try to adopt new ways to express themselves.

The education of SCFLS is based on students’ interest and teachers teach students with project-based method. We use digital tools for students and encourage them to create and share. We also cultivate students’ ability of solving interdisciplinary problems and the abilities of collaboration and innovation. SCFLS is cultivating the talents for the whole world.
